The Water Rat Sailing Club offers affordable, low-impact access to Lake Ontario through sailing and paddling in Toronto’s Outer Harbour beside Cherry Beach. Founded in 1969, this volunteer-run, not-for-profit co-op is home to one of Canada’s largest Laser fleets and a community of over 200 members and their families. With shared facilities for dinghies, catamarans, canoes, kayaks, and racing programs, Water Rats keeps the waterfront active, inclusive, and accessible.

Club motto

"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats." - Ratty, in Kenneth Grahame's The Wind In The Willows

Acknowledgement

We believe in the stewardship of Lake Ontario's waterfront, a responsibility we share as members of our outdoors club. For millennia, this region has been the traditional territory and passageway for Indigenous peoples, including the Huron-Wendat, Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas of the Credit. We acknowledge that Indigenous people, including members of our club, continue to call this area home. We are grateful to them and to the City for the chance to enjoy "OntarĂ'io," the great lake.
